Asylum in Denmark

Convention status, protected status or temporary protected status · Official name: Asyl (udlændingeloven § 7)

Any foreign national in Denmark can apply for asylum, even without legal status, but only from inside Denmark: requests at Danish embassies or consulates abroad are not accepted. People without a residence permit apply in person at a police station or at the police in Centre Sandholm. The Danish Immigration Service can grant Convention status (section 7(1)), protected status (section 7(2)) or temporary protected status (section 7(3)). All permits are temporary and must be extended. People displaced from Ukraine apply under the separate Ukraine Special Act.
