Visit to Tonga: visa-free for some nationalities, or entry permit (entry visa) applied for in advance
The Government of Tonga says visa rules depend on nationality: citizens of some countries can enter visa-free for short stays, while others must apply for an entry permit before arriving. The Tonga High Commission in Canberra processes entry permits by email, issuing them as a letter, with a processing fee of AUD 69 or TOP 69 and 15 working days' processing. People who plan to set up a business may enter on a visitor's visa but must tell Tonga Immigration in writing in advance.

Employment visa / employment permit
Any non-Tongan who wants to work in Tonga, in the public service or the private sector, for any length of time, needs an Employment Visa. This includes voluntary and charitable work. The Immigration Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will only consider applications supported by the Ministry of Labour, Commerce and Industries (MLCI). MLCI checks whether the applicant's skills are needed in Tonga.
