Cook Islands Permanent Residence

Immigration Act framework

The Cook Islands is a self-governing state in free association with New Zealand and runs its own immigration system through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration. New Zealand does not decide entry or residence. Under the immigration framework consulted on in 2020, permanent residence in one's own right needs five consecutive years of lived presence for New Zealand passport holders and ten consecutive years for other passport holders, plus an approval application.
