Tourist visa (consular) and visa on arrival for organised Saharan tours
Most foreign visitors need a tourist visa from an Algerian embassy or consulate before travelling. Algerian embassies also describe a separate scheme for organised tours to the Great South: an approved Algerian travel agency applies through a Ministry of Tourism platform, the traveller gets a QR-code boarding authorisation, and the visa is issued and paid for on arrival. That on-arrival visa is valid for no more than 30 days and covers southern destinations only.
