Temporary protection for people displaced from Ukraine

Official name: Tilapäinen suojelu (temporary protection)

Finland applies EU temporary protection to people fleeing the war in Ukraine. On 30 July 2026 EU countries agreed to extend it by one year, so it continues until 4 March 2028. Since 5 August 2026 it is not granted to people who have not complied with their military obligations in Ukraine (only people authorised to leave Ukraine qualify). Current permits are valid until 4 March 2027 and Migri will extend them to 4 March 2028; people already protected do not need to act.
