Temporary refuge (temporary protection) for people displaced from Ukraine

Official name: Dočasné útočisko

Slovakia gives EU temporary protection, called temporary refuge, to people who fled the war in Ukraine. The Ministry of the Interior said on 18 February 2026 that it is extended automatically to 4 March 2027. After registering, people get an A4 paper confirmation that works as a temporary residence document for up to 90 days until the residence card is issued.
