Suriname residence permit (verblijfsvergunning) and authorisation for short stay

MKV

Residence permits in Suriname are handled by the Aliens Affairs Department (Hoofdafdeling Vreemdelingenzaken) of the Ministry of Justice and Police. Visa-required foreigners who plan to stay longer than three months must first apply for an authorisation for short stay (MKV) at a Surinamese embassy or consulate in their home country. People of Surinamese origin and nationals of visa-waiver and CARICOM countries are exempt from the MKV and can apply in Suriname during their legal stay. The application needs a request to the Minister, proof of means of support and a USD 150 payment.
