Temporary protection for people from Syria
Türkiye · Official name: Temporary protection under the Temporary Protection Regulation (Law No. 6458, Article 91)
Syrian citizens, stateless people and refugees who came to Türkiye from Syria because of events since 28 April 2011 are covered by temporary protection, even if they lodged an international protection claim. Individual international protection claims are not processed for them while temporary protection applies. After registration with the governorate they get a free temporary protection identification document and a foreigner identification number. Temporary protection gives a right to stay, but it does not count as a residence permit: it does not lead to long-term residence and does not count towards Turkish citizenship.
