Naturalisation as an ROC (Taiwan) national

Foreign nationals can naturalise in Taiwan after legally residing there for more than 183 days a year for at least five consecutive years, with legal capacity, no bad conduct or criminal record, enough property or skills to support themselves, basic Mandarin and basic knowledge of citizens' rights and duties. Spouses of ROC nationals need three consecutive years and are exempt from the self-support rule. Ten years' residence is another route, and recommended high-level professionals have a shorter route. Most applicants must show they have lost their original nationality within one year of approval; high-level professionals and people with special contributions are exempt.
