Parents and Grandparents Program (sponsorship for permanent residence) - paused
Official name: Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)
A Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person registered as an Indian can sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residence, but only after IRCC invites them to apply. The program is paused: IRCC says it is not currently accepting applications, and it will not accept new interest to sponsor forms or invite potential sponsors to apply until further notice (notice of 15 Jul 2026). The last intake (2025) invited people who submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020; it closed on 9 Oct 2025. Applications already submitted are still being processed. The super visa remains open for long visits.
