Extend your stay or renew a residence permit from inside Spain
Visa-free short stays can be extended by up to 3 more months in limited cases under Article 20 of the Schengen Convention. Workers renew in the 2 months before their permit ends. Applying in time keeps the permit valid until the decision. Applying up to 3 months late also does, but a penalty procedure can be opened.
