Who it’s for
Foreign nationals legally married to a Maldivian citizen. Resident Visas can also go to some former spouses with a Maldivian child and to widows or widowers of Maldivians.
Eligibility
Legal marriage
The applicant must be legally married to a Maldivian citizen. The application form (IM20) must be endorsed by the Family Court.
Sponsorship Declaration before arrival
If coming to marry or register a marriage in the Maldives, the Maldivian sponsor must file a Sponsorship Declaration on IMUGA and get it approved before travel. Those already in the Maldives on another valid visa can change category after the marriage is registered.
Other resident visa cases
Resident Visas may also be granted after the marriage ends where the foreign national has a Maldivian child, and where the Maldivian spouse has died, if they remain eligible under the law.
