Access to Vatican City

visits and access permits

Under the 2011 Law on citizenship, residence and access, people who are not Vatican citizens or residents need an access permit from the Governatorato to enter the parts of the territory where free access is not allowed. Areas open to free access can be visited without a permit. Permits last for the time needed for the purpose, and frequent visitors or people working for Holy See bodies can receive a permanent permit or a special access card.
