Bermuda Permission to Reside on an Annual Basis

replaced Work From Bermuda

Non-Bermudians who want to live in Bermuda without local employment can apply for permission to reside. The Work From Bermuda certificate for remote workers closed to new applicants after 28 February 2025, and the government points former holders to Permission to Reside on an Annual Basis. Permission may be granted for up to five years.

Employees bear the employee portion of payroll tax, progressive 0.25% (first $48,000), 7.75%, 10.75%, 11.5% up to 12.5% (on $500,001-$1,000,000; pay above $1m untaxed) for 1 Apr 2026-31 Mar 2027.

Financially independent people, including remote workers employed outside Bermuda, who want to live in Bermuda without working for a local employer.

Eligibility

  • Who can apply

    New applicants, people with a specific Bermuda connection, and holders of an expiring residential permission, short-term work permit, or written permission from the Minister.

  • Former Work From Bermuda holders

    If you hold a Work From Bermuda certificate, apply 1-2 months before it expires; if you are not staying, leave within 90 days after expiry.
