Concessione della cittadinanza italiana per residenza

Legge 91/1992, art. 9

Italian citizenship can be granted by decree of the President of the Republic to foreign nationals who have lived legally in Italy for a set period. The standard period is 10 years for non-EU nationals, 4 years for EU citizens and 5 years for stateless persons. Law 74/2025 (converting Decree-Law 36/2025) cut the period to 2 years for foreigners whose parent or grandparent is or was an Italian citizen by birth. Applicants also need Italian at B1, sufficient taxable income in Italy, no disqualifying criminal record and no security objections.
