Overstay consequences and assisted voluntary return
Italy
This is not a route to status. Staying without a permit can bring a fine of 5,000 to 10,000 euros and expulsion, with a re-entry ban of 3 to 5 years. Italy's law provides assisted return programmes, run by the Ministry of the Interior, which suspend certain expulsion orders.
