Sint Maarten is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands with its own admission rules, separate from French Saint-Martin on the same island. Visitors from many countries need no visa; visa nationals apply for a Caribbean short-stay visa through Dutch embassies. A Saint-Martin (French) visa covers Sint Maarten only, and some exemptions differ from the other Dutch Caribbean islands.

Visa-free nationals
- Nationals of listed countries including Canada, the US, the UK and many Schengen states.
- Guyana nationals need a visa for Sint Maarten;
- Jamaican nationals need one too.
Permit-based exemptions
Holders of multiple-entry Schengen, UK or Irish visas or residence permits, US or Canadian residence permits, or French overseas territory visas/permits (a Saint-Martin residence permit or visa) may be exempt.
